Q. – Who can register to St Teresa Soccer?

A. – Every child that meets the St. Teresa Parish guidelines and Staten Island Soccer Leagues (SISL) rules can register to play with St. Teresa Soccer Club. If for any reason a team reaches the maximum number of players (and there are not enough kids to have another team), preference will be given to registered parishioners, children attending St. Teresa School and children attending CCD at St. Teresa (in this order).

Q. – How old my child has to be to play?

A. – In general St. Teresa Soccer program is for children 4 to 14 years old. The exact dates by when a child has to be born in order to play are set by the SISL and can be found in the Rules and Regulation page.

Q. – How kids are divided into teams?

A. – Players are divided into teams (gender based) according to their age group (date of birth as determined by the SISL). Currently St. Teresa has teams for the following age groups: Girls Under 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14. Boys Under 6, 8, 10 and 12.

Q. – When soccer starts?

A. – The soccer program is spilt into two seasons: Fall and Spring. Fall season goes from mid September to mid November. Spring Season goes from mid April to mid June. There may also be some indoor tournament in the period January through March. Practice usually starts a couple of week before each season starts.

Q. – Where/when kids play and/or practice?

A. – Official games are usually played at Miller Field, although some games can be played at other locations. The majority of the games (usually those for the U6 and U8) are played on Saturdays or Sundays. At the beginning of each season the SISL publishes the schedule for each team and decides where and when the games are played.

Practices are at the discretion of individual coaches but are usually held at least once a week. Usually St. Teresa teams hold practices at St. Teresa field on Victory Blvd. or at some other fields in the area.

Q. – How many games/practices there are in a season?

A. – There are usually 8 official games per season (i.e. 8 in the fall and 8 in the spring) but there may be less depending on the SISL schedule. Practices are at the discretion of individual coaches but usually held at least once a week during each season starting a couple of weeks before the season starts.

Q. – When can I register?

A. – Registrations for the full year (i.e. Fall and Spring are held during the month of May and June. Registrations for Spring only are held from late January to mid March. Children  registered for the full year do not need to re-register for spring.

Q. – Why do we have to pay a fee?

A. – The money collected is used to run the Soccer program. It covers registration fees with the SISL, Referees fees, fees for indoor tournaments, St. Teresa facilities maintenance and other parish expenses, Equipments and other operating costs. They also include expenses for the annual Soccer Communion breakfast during which trophies and other gifts are presented to all players.

Q. – Why do you need a picture of the player?

A. – If your child plays in a under 8 or above team a “passport style” picture is required by the SISL for the ID. An ID is required to verify that a player belongs to a given club and team. A picture is not required for children playing in the U6 divisions.

Q. – Why you need a copy of the birth certificate?

A. – The SISL requires a copy of each player’s birth certificate to verify his/her page and place them in the appropriate group age.
