SCOUTMASTER
RICHARD GUNDACKER RETIRES
For the last 23 years; our Boy Scout Troop 37
has been led by the legendary Richard Gundacker. There will be a changing of the
guard this July at the conclusion of summer camp as "Mr. G", as he is
affectionately known steps down and hands over the Scoutmasters mantle to
Michael DiTrani, currently an Assistant Scoutmaster who has served both Pack and
Troop 37 for many years. "Mr. G's" influence has spread far and wide across the
Island, where he has led the most active Catholic sponsored troop in our
community and has inspired countless numbers of young men to strive for and
achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting's highest award. In his retirement
letter to Father O'Hara and the entire Troop 37 family, Richie says it best:
"My greatest satisfaction were the young men
in the troop that I have worked with, entering the Troop as ten year olds and
leaving years later to enter our society as well shaped men.... We have lawyers,
policemen, firemen, FBI agents, military personnel, engineers, fathers,
husbands, an elected official and a priest! We are so proud of them all!"
Richie, we are very proud of you, because you have been a part of the life of
this parish and have positively impacted on the lives of young men in an
extraordinary way. While you're stepping down, we're glad you'll still be around
and a part of the family.
May God abundantly bless you, your wife Mary and your entire family. And know,
from the depths of our hearts, that you mean so much to us!
